Principle is proud to be a company with a strong environmental track record. They find ways to manage their resources that create a harmony between their business and the environment.
- Principle uses a UV-cured, roll-coated process for wood finishing. Instead of spraying the finish on, it is rolled on and then cured with UV light. When finish is sprayed on, 50% of that chemical spray is emitted into the environment; but when the finish is rolled on, it releases no VOC emissions. And, the finish is ten times more durable when rolled on.
- Principle belongs to the Tropical Forest Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to conserve tropical forests through sustainable forestry practices. The Tropical Forest Foundation teaches and works with farmers to demonstrate growing and harvesting practices that teach the principles of sustainable forest management. When samples are specified for custom woodwork, we recommend only Rainforest wood species know to be sustained.
- Principle promotes using their own manufactured veneered products for wider, and wider, use of materials compared to solid lumber products. There are many pieces of veneer to one piece of solid lumber. Additionally, the substrate used for veneering, such as particle board or fiber board, is comprised of recycled materials and/or less desirable trees. Formaldehyde-free substrates are also available.
- Principle’s metal coating process is an environmentally-sound option. This powder-coating process eliminates overspray that would be emitted to the ozone. Excess powder is also recycled.
- All waste products from Principle’s office and plant, including scrap lumber, plywood, sawdust and cardboard, are recycled to outside sources.
- Principle uses blanket wrapping to reduce jobsite waste and packaging disposal, as well as to protect products from potential damage during transport.
